A local care home has celebrated the 102nd birthday of a popular resident who has attributed her long life to a positive mind-set and healthy lifestyle.

Ivy Holdaway celebrated the impressive milestone with friends and residents at Skylark House in Horsham. Everyone toasted Ivy’s good health with a glass of wine and tucked into a slice of birthday cake.

Revealing the secret to living to 102, Ivy said: “I have never really been a big drinker, so I think a healthy lifestyle is the secret to a longer life. Age is just a number to me, but I’m feeling pleased to be turning 102!”

Devendra Lallchand, home manager at Skylark House, said: “We always like to make an occasion of birthdays, and Ivy’s 102nd birthday is no exception. We made sure that she had a great day and presented her with a special birthday cake to mark the milestone. It was lovely to be able to join Ivy to celebrate such a wonderful occasion.”

Ivy Maud Holdaway was born in Lambeth, London on 11th June 1916. Ivy lived in Lambeth for most of her life, and it was here where she met her husband, Arthur. A passionate cook, Ivy was a devoted housewife and worked hard perfecting her culinary skills by cooking all of Arthur’s favourite dishes.

Ivy loves animals, and likes to reminisce about her pet dog - she particularly enjoys visits from her four-legged friends at the ‘Pets As Therapy’ group, taking plenty of opportunity to pet the friendly canine companions that visit her.

In her spare time, Ivy enjoys spending time with her niece, Valerie, and her great-nephew, Carl. Ivy likes taking time to get pampered, and always looks forward to Friday when she can sit down with the ladies at Skylark House for a gossip and a manicure – Ivy loves choosing flamboyant colours for her nails.

Ivy moved into Skylark House in November 2017.

Situated on St Marks Lane, Skylark House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short term respite and palliative care.
