A group that teaches kickboxing in Basingstoke has been awarded £1,000 by leading housebuilder Persimmon Homes Thames Valley.
Basingstoke Kickboxing Organisation (BKO) made a successful bid to the Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme to help fund their members to compete in national and international competitions.
Ronald Peploe, from BKO, said: “We compete regularly in National and International tournaments. We have British and European champions of all ages in our club, and several junior and senior members in the British team.
“Competing can be expensive and we are looking for money to give some of the children who are unable to afford the cost of travelling, equipment, entry fees etc, to take part and realise their potential.
“We have five Team GB members and we need funding to aid with the tournament and travelling costs. We have classes for all ages and abilities, from the very young with our Little Ninja’s, a Beginners Academy and an International Fighting Squad.”
He added: “A big thank you to Persimmon Homes for donating to BKO through their Community Champions Scheme.”
Rachel Faulkner, sales director of Persimmon South Coast, said: “It is our pleasure to award Basingstoke Kickboxing Organisation £1,000 to support their members, and we hope this money helps them realise their potential and pursue their dream of kickboxing. Good luck to everyone competing.”
The Persimmon Homes Thames Valley Community Champions scheme has proved hugely popular and selecting monthly winners is a difficult choice from so many worthy causes.
Rachel added: “If people were unsuccessful last month, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next Community Champion.”
